Description
High Transparency Microbiological Gel Media
Gellan gum is ideal for preparation of nutrient media for culture work and is a substitute for agar. Gels produced with gellan gum are clearer in comparison to agar; however, the gel can be more rigid and brittle than agar gel. Gellan gum requires roughly half the amount of agar that is needed. Gellan gum melts at 80°C – 100°C and gels between 10°C – 50°C.
Recommended Usage:
- Add Gellan gum to 1L of water
- Heat to boiling while stirring to dissolve the Gellan Gum
- Add nutrients
- Sterilize at 15psi for 15 minutes
For a softer gel use 8g of Gellan Gum per liter
For a harder gel use 15g of Gellan Gum per liter
